There is so much ambiguity in the harmonization and management of figures especially financial in institutions and organizations when it is not in the hands of a skilled expert. This delicate but complex task is the privileged of a trained Accountant who ensures that the financial flow of every institution is balanced in output and input, income and expenditure. Every organization in the world including churches and faith based institutions harbors an accountant or at least somebody managing its finances. Finances serve as the heartbeat of every institution and can make or mare its life depending on its management. It involves a lot of figures requiring meticulous calculations taking into considerations details necessitating only an expert input from an accounting background.

Structure of studies and duration

Accountancy is a social science discipline that deals with social organisations and organizational finances of input and output, income and expenditure. In order to answer this problematic the programme covers mathematics, accounting, statistics, finance, project management, information management, public finance, organizational behavior etc. It runs for two semesters of an academic year and opened to holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) from a recognized institution. The programme is both theory and practical coupled with the defense of an end of course project by the candidate as requirements for the award of a Professional Bachelor Degree in Accountancy supervised and delivered by the government mentoring institution, the University of Bamenda and recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Employment Opportunities

Accountants are employed in almost all sectors of public life including but not limited to Schools, hospitals, military, police, financial institutions, banks, microfinance establishments, business entreprises, companies, national and international organisations etc. It is one of the most popular fields of studies with employment opportunities almost everywhere.
