Events Management

It is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world as more and more events are being organized daily round the globe. It squarely infiltrates the paradigm shift from a traditional closed society to an open one with more avenues of socialization. In past events like weddings used to be limited to close family members but today, many couples prefer confining the organization of their nuptial meetings in the hands of professionals. These professionals are events management and their know how goes beyond the organization of weddings to book launches, festivals, trade fairs, concerts, sporting jamborees etc.

Studies and Duration

The programme focuses on events as a project including the organization, budgetary management and communication and marketing of the event including the décor. It is covers two academic years and opened to holders of a GCE Advanced Level in at least two subjects excluding Religious Knowledge. It involves theory and practical sessions including field trips and supervised internships under the direction of a JIMIT staff with both African and Western experiences of event management. At the end each student defends a project and takes the mandatory national exams as requirements for the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Events Management by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates have a wide range of options including setting up their own event management firm, work with companies especially those involved with marketing of products and services. They can also serve as marketing agents, managers for companies. They have the possibility of engaging in short term contracts like the organization of specific events such as sporting jamboree, cultural celebrations etc. They can also be employed in governmental services not limited to Ministries of Culture, Communication, and Tourism.
