Land Law

The question of land ownership, use and management has always been problematic in most countries including Cameroon. Not even the enactment of the 1974 Land Law has solved the question as a tumultuous relationship still exist between locals and the state in matters of land. Moreover, the situation of local and decentralized councils is no better. This problematic has necessitated the training of experts who can assist individuals, local councils, state institutions and private bodies in their ownership and management of lands.

Studies and Duration

The programme is centered on the study of land law, contract law, land ownership and management, governance and administration, public finance etc. It is opened to holders of the GCE Advanced Level or its equivalent and runs for two years and involves theoretical and practical lessons with a supervised internship. Each student also prepares and publicly defends a project. It is sanctioned by a national exam as requirements for the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Land Law delivered by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates are solicited in local and regional councils which has an extensive relationship with land matters. They can also work with decentralized services of local authorities which are authorities in land matters. They are also employed by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and the Ministry of Decentralisation and a host of governmental agencies. They can also serve in NGOs dealing with land use and environmental issues.
