In time past, the marketing of products was based on a trade by barter scheme. However, with a growing economy and the institutionalization of economics as an academic discipline, as well as mounting competition for the limited resources and how to win the hearts of consumers, the presentation of goods and services for public consumption became a point of focus. The programme seeks to equip students with knowledge to make known, make love and make consume a product or service produced by an institution.

Structure of studies and duration

Marketing is a social science discipline that studies social organization and the presentation and promotion of its products. The Master’s programme gives the student with in-depth knowledge on marketing and mass communication/publicity of goods and services. It is purely professional involving theory and practice. To arrive at this, focus is placed on communication, business techniques, mathematics, negotiation, publicity, organizational behavior, project management, finance etc. The programme is organized to run for four semesters and opened to holders of at least a Bachelor degree in Marketing or related field from a recognized institution. . During their stay at JIMIT, students also undertake a supervised internship and defend an end of course thesis as requirements for the award of a Master of Business Administration (Professional Master’s Degree) in Marketing by the University of Bamenda and recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Employment Opportunities

Marketers are highly demanded in business entreprises including banks, financial houses, microfinance establishments, national and multinational companies of all sorts. They are also solicited by media houses especially at the commercial and marketing desk. This advanced degree also gives graduates the possibility of occupying top management positions in public and private institutions especially with some years of experience.
