Management of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)
NGOs are very popular in Africa and Cameroon in particular. In this part of the world service delivery to the public is not the exclusive privilege of the state because of its limited resources. Groups not aligned to the state but with official authorization from the state to operate have become involved in this act of reaching out to the public. Most of them started as simple associations regrouping few persons but with time transformed into professional organisations employing many persons who carry out their activities. This has necessitated the training of skilled personnel for this arm of public service. Africa has thus become the heartbeat of NGOs and INGOs with uncountable number of them operating from the provision of services, medical intervention, communication, etc. Their presence has been necessitated by the too many manmade conflicts and natural disasters wherein some of them provide medical and relief services and materials to affected persons. Some of these organisations partner directly and indirectly with governmental institutions and United Nations agencies and other national and international outlets to achieve their missions. This challenging task is made possible by skilled personnel specialized in the management of NGOs.
Studies and Duration
The training involves project management, management, NGOs, INGOs, financial management, communication etc. It runs for two academic years and opened to holders of the GCE Advanced Level in at least two subjects excluding Religious Studies. Lecturers are choosing among people with theoretical and practical experience in NGO management to follow up the students. At the end of studies, each student defends an end of course project and takes the national exams as requirements for the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Management of NGOs by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Employment Opportunities
With a multiplicity of NGOs and INGOs students have a huge consumer market awaiting them upon graduation.
