Port Shipping Management

It is a novelty in the domain of higher education which has been necessitated by the growing importance of the sea route in the transportation of goods and people. From a colonial background, shipping lines have been modernized to include luxurious trips and voyages around the world which has emphasized the importance of water transport. Moreover, it has also incumbent for owners of shipping vessels to recruit professionals to manage these vessels in order to adapt to the growing competition of the world. Port Shipping Management seeks to train professional managers and skilled workers of this rapidly growing industry.

Studies and Duration

Studies run for two academic years and opened to holders of the GCE Advance Level in at least two subjects or its equivalent excluding Religious Knowledge. The programme includes theory and practical as well as field trips and a supervised internship in a recognized institution. It is sanctioned at the end by the defense of a project by the student and the mandatory national exams as requirements for the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND) Port Shipping Management by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Employment Opportunities

At the moment Cameroon has many seaports and wharfs including Douala, Kribi, Limbe, Tiko, Garoua and Mamfe. Graduates can faithfully serve in such places. They can also work in similar places abroad as their training gives them a wide spectrum to serve anywhere in the world. With the growing number of shipping lines, transport companies, graduates also have a huge market to sell their services. They can serve as managers of shipping vessels.
