Computer Engineering

The 21st century is basically the computer age as majority of work done goes through the computer. Workers in almost all domains are now assisted in their daily task by the computer which makes it inevitable in life. This computer age is guaranteed by computer engineers who focus on designing hardware and software for computers. Their job is to ensure the interconnectivity of hardware and software to guarantee an optimum computer system. It also includes electronic engineering and computer science. Computer engineers are focused on technology and innovation in the computer and electronic world.

Structure of studies and duration

The programme is focused on mathematics, physics, algorithm, computer science, electronics, networking, communication etc. It is opened to holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Engineering or related field from a recognized institution. Studies run for two semesters of an academic year including theory and practical session at the JIMIT computer laboratory. Each student also defends an end of course project as requirements for the award of a Professional Bachelor Degree in Computer Engineering supervised and delivered by the government mentoring institution, the University of Bamenda, and recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates can serve as computer engineers, network engineers, electronic engineers, web developer, computer network architect, information security analysts in government structures and organization with computer networks, medical facilities, schools, the military etc. They can particularly work as electronic engineers especially on a computer based platform.
