Didactics, Curriculum Development and Teaching
Didactics is the theory and practice of teaching and it is a complementary service with curriculum development and teaching. Teaching is not just a theory but a practice that goes with an everyday transmission of knowledge. It goes with the development of teaching models and principles adaptable to the society. In the past, this was a privilege for governments but with an increase in population, private individuals and Religious bodies have also engaged in the process of teaching and most of them recruit their educators from universities and professional schools like JIMIT.
Studies and Duration
It is a comprehensive programme that involves theory and practice combined with an internship/teaching practice. It runs for two years and opened to holders of at least the GCE Advanced Level in two subjects excluding Religious Knowledge or its equivalent or the Teachers Grade One certificate. At the end of the programme each student defends a project and takes the mandatory national exams as requirements for the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Didactics, Curriculum Development and Teaching by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Employment Opportunities
There are many opportunities for graduates especially in the private sector. With a growing number of private academic establishments and academic institutions owned by religious bodies, many graduates are being consumed by these institutions. In some cases, Teachers already employed by the government also take such courses to upgrade their knowledge and onward reclassification.
