Human Resource Management

Human Resource Management

As the world mutates into a fast track episode, several career opportunities are also being born including Human Resource Management. It seeks to answer the question of recruitment, management, motivation, follow-up and evaluation of members of staff of any entity. At first instance there was an ambiguity in the management of staff members of any organization which ensured that evaluation was not effective and output not maximized. Moreover, recruitment was in the hands of the manager or secretary and this created a confusion of task. However, with the growing need for efficiency and cost effective methods of management of staffs, religious bodies and civil society organisations have also been soliciting holders of knowledge and certificates in Human Resource Management. Moreover, governmental and state services have also become consumers of such products.

Studies and Duration

Some of the courses include communication, how to manage conflict among staffs, accounting, business management, recruitment and staff management, government and administration. The programme is opened to holders of the GCE Advanced Level in at least two subjects excluding Religious Knowledge and runs for two years including theory and practical sessions and a supervised internship. Students also prepare and defend their end of course projects publicly and take the national exams as requirements for the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Human Resource Management by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Employment Opportunities

Holders of certificates in HRM can work anywhere in the world, from corporate bodies to state institutions to religious and civil society organisations. Majority of these institutions now have human resource departments which consumes holders of certificates in HRM.
