Logistics and Transport Management
The programme is designed to answer the growing demand for skilled professionals in the management of the processes involved in the transportation of goods and people from one place to another. As the world is becoming a global village and nations and states are developing and engaging in international relations with people and goods constantly on the move, Transport and Logistics trains personnel to manage these processes.
The programme also seeks to address not only international demand but national as well such as travel agencies within the national borders of a country. In the past decade, Cameroon in particular has witnessed the growth of travel agencies serving millions of persons within the national territory. These agencies and companies are served with skilled professional trained in this domain. With the growing division of labour most organisations now prefer professionals to manage their logistics; what goes out and what comes in in the form of goods and materials for both consumption and investments.
Structure of studies and duration
It is strictly a social science discipline that seeks to explain the myth in the organization and management of goods as well as the entire transport sector. Students are equipped with knowledge of transport systems, travel agencies, logistics management and goods transaction and management, communication, organizational behaviour etc. The programme runs for two semesters of an academic year and opened to holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Transport and Logistics Management or any related field. It is designed to include both theory and practical/field trips. At the end of studies each student defends a project as requirements for the award of a Professional Bachelor Degree in Transport and Logistics Management supervised and awarded by the government mentoring institution, the University of Bamenda and recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates can work with international transport agencies based at airports and seaports. They can also work with airlines flying nationally and internationally as well as shipping lines. Another door for employment is national travel agencies which are springing up every day. Employment opportunities are also found in institutions, organisations, international organisations, foreign embassies wherein graduates are recruited to serve in the logistics and management department, companies especially those involved in the manufacturing chain. They can as well work as baggage operators at the airport, seaports and for companies.
