Logistics and Transport Management
It is one of the fastest growing service industries in the world enhanced by globalization. As the world is becoming a global village and nations and states are developing and engaging in international relations with people and goods constantly on the move, Transport and Logistics trains personnel to manage these processes. The programme is designed to answer the growing demand for skilled professionals in the management of the processes involved in the transportation of goods and people from one place to another.
The programme also seeks to address not only international demand but national as well such as travel agencies within the national borders of a country. In the past decade, Cameroon in particular has witnessed the growth of travel agencies serving millions of persons within the national territory. Moreover, with the growing division of labour most organisations now seek the services of professionals to manage their logistics.
Structure of studies and duration
It is strictly a social science discipline that seeks to explain the myth in the organization and management of goods as well as the entire transport sector. Students are offered a purely professional master programme that blends theory and practice. The programme runs for four semesters and opened to holders of a Bachelor degree in Transport and Logistics Management or any related field from a recognized institution. It is designed to include both theory and practical/field trips sanctioned. Students also undertake a supervised internship in a recognized institution and defend an end of course thesis as requirements for the award of a Master of Business Administration (Professional Master Degree) in Logistics and Transport Management by the University of Bamenda and recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates can work with international transport agencies based at airports and seaports. They can also work with airlines flying nationally and internationally as well as shipping lines. Another door for employment is national travel agencies which are springing up every day. Employment opportunities are also found in institutions, organisations, and international organisations, foreign embassies wherein graduates are recruited to serve in the logistics and management department, in companies especially those involved in the manufacturing chain. They can as well work as baggage operators at the airport, seaports and for companies. This advanced degree gives graduates the possibility to occupy top management positions in companies and institutions especially with some years of experience.
