Media Photography and Audio-Visual
From its embryonic stage of propaganda, the radio and television have grown to be an indispensable part of life especially with the rapid growth of the showbiz industry in Africa. This has also had a great impact on the photography world which has moved from the ancient practice of taking studio photo to an entire professional industry on its own. This has been enhanced by the advent of new communication technologies. The training seeks to give students a professional touch in photography and the making of audio and videos for public consumption.
Studies and Duration
The programme runs for two years and opened to holders of the GCE Advanced Level in at least two subjects excluding Religious Knowledge. It involves both theory and practical sessions sanctioned by a professional internship. Students end their studies with the defense of a project and the mandatory national exams which serves as requirements for the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Media, Photography and Audio-Visual by the Ministry of Higher Education under the academic supervision of the Advanced School of Mass Communication of the University of Yaoundé II, Soa.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates can successfully set up and run a professional photo studio with celebrity style packages. They can combine it with audio-visual production especially for weddings, ceremonies, baptisms, funerals etc. Moreover, they are also highly solicited in media houses as studio managers, editors, camera men/women, sound technician etc. With the growth of the music and movie industry, they can also work with studios involved in the production of music and videos. Graduates can also serve as instructors in professional training centres for photography and music and video trainees.
