Nursing
Nursing is one of the oldest professions in human history and it never loses its value so long as there are human beings on earth. From the foundations of modern Nursing laid down by the celebrated Florence Nightingale, the profession has evolved from a woman’s job to include male caregivers in hospitals and health centres, dispensaries, schools, prisons and elsewhere.
Studies and Duration
The programme offered by JIMIT is strictly regulated by the Ministry of Higher Education and Public Health and involves three years of theory and practical training in hospitals and health centres. Students start going on practical internship as from the first year of studies. The school also has a laboratory for practical sessions. Being a delicate arm of education, it is organized in such a way that after every theoretical period students get to practice in hospitals and health centres. Courses bother on human anatomy and physiognomy, microbiology, parasitology, public health, health administration etc.
After three years of studies, students prepare and defend publicly a project and also take the national exams as requirements for the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nursing by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Employment Opportunities
Nurses are basically employed in hospitals, health centres, clinics etc. They are also employed in schools, prisons and institutions where they provide first aid to patients before any further intervention. They can also open their own clinics and provide personal home care services to patients.
