Sports Management

Sports Management

In the past sports was mostly done for leisure and not as a profession. Most athletes and players in the past would testify that they engaged in sports as a secondary activity and not as a primary source of income. An example is the Cameroon national football team wherein majority of the players recruited in the 1970s and 1980s were gainfully employed elsewhere while taking football as a secondary activity. However, with the huge sponsorship and development of sports in recent times, it has become a full time job just like any other job in the world. Just as managers exist elsewhere, sports in its unique nature needs persons with particular skills to manage and sustain it. Moreover, it does not suffice to be talented but to manage the talent in a way that would be sustainable. Athletes are also in need of skilled managers to better plan and manage their careers.
