Tourism and Travel Agency Management
One of the major fallouts of globalization is the development of transport infrastructures and the growth of the general transport sector with a corresponding increase in tourism. Transport and Tourism both complement each other and it is difficult to have tourism without travels and those who travel are sometimes on touristic trips. This mass movement has necessitated the development of an academic domain which provides professional services to consumers in any part of the world. The programme is geared at studying the general organization of the transport sector, development and management of touristic services and agencies as well as management and marketing to sell the image of a destination.
Studies and Duration
The programme runs for two years and opened to holders of a GCE Advanced Level in at least two papers excluding Religious Knowledge or its equivalent. It involves both theory and field trip practical sessions and internships and ends with the defense of a project by the student. Each student also writes the national exams as requirements to be fulfilled for the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Tourism and Travel Agency Management by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates can serve as Tourist guide, work in interurban and intra-urban transport agencies, travel agencies with competences to manage flight movements of persons and goods, airports, seaports, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Transport and they can also set up their own tourism firm or travel agency, etc.
